Change comes from the top?

Change comes from the top?

Change in an organization can come from two places — the top or the bottom. Change from the top is easy, you just have to wait for the orders to come in. The problem is that it usually leads to disenchantment, complaining and leaves you unhappy. It’s not how you would have done things, so really change never comes as you wish. And please don’t kid yourself thinking that you don’t want change:

Progress is a nice word, but change is its motivator. And change has its enemies.

– Robert F. Kennedy

The other type of change comes from the bottom. It’s hard, but fulfilling work. Don’t wait for your superhero. Take charge of the situation and change it how you would like it.

Steve Rubel retweeted an article from @smarterware today: Control Your Email Inbox with Three Folders

It’s really simple and definitely worth trying out.  Creat three folders:

  • To Do
  • Wait
  • Reference

Answer easy and quick emails on the spot and sort the rest.

I’ve started this today to test it out.  What method do you use to stay on top of emails?
